The parts in this kit are for the 1988 -1992 Volkswagen Jetta and 1988 - 1992 Volkswagen Golf Bosch Digifant fuel injection systems. The fuel pump is mounted inside a plastic housing, which has a tendency to crack. Mounted externally on the housing is the fuel filter. Four rubber mounts hold the assembly to the chassis. The fuel pumps usually last a long time. However, 2 conditions will contribute to the failure of the main fuel pump: 1) Failure of the in tank pre-pump will eventually cause the main pump to fail. 2) Contaminants from the fuel tank will also cause the main pump to fail. When replacing the main pump it is extremely important to check the pre-pump and to check and clean the fuel tank. Failure to do both will result in a premature failure of the new main pump.
